A Tour of Random
Let's see, recent happenings...

I hid out the last couple days, as I usually do every year around this time. Count me as media-saturated and incredibly tired. It's not like I am EVER likely to forget what happened. And that is all I'm gonna say about that.

In the same vein, I avoided the stagegay controversy like the plague. Count me as someone who doesn't know enough to weigh in on the allegedly offensive comparisons that were drawn, but still has the opinion that some people (in this case, the original poster and starter of the kerfuffle) seem to look for things to get offended about.

Buffy comic book this week was pretty good, but brutally short, I felt. Comics just get shorter and shorter, don't they? With bigger and bigger panel layouts. I read yesterday that there's some stirrings in fandom preemptively freaking out over a possible Buffy/Xander relationship in the comic. I have to say, I see the brother/sister love and closeness vibe, but nothing beyond that. The Faith/Giles vibe looks far more likely, which is to say, remotely possible. Which is to say, not a chance.

Wait. WAIT! This just in: New Highlander the Series Movie on Sci-Fi! HFS! OMG! Other three letter abbreviations for shock, awe and joy! I freaking LOVED this show. And Duncan, yum! You pastry with muffiny filling, you!

After careful consideration, I've come to the conclusion that, yes, I really do like Emo music. This is not surprising. My love of drama, melodrama, and angst makes me a perfect candidate for loving Emo. However, if I hear Hey There, Delilah one more motherf**king time, I will NOT be responsible for my actions.

I've been on a Lifehouse kick for weeks, now. It's all I've been listening to on my iPod and my home playlist. I've been trying to figure out for the longest time exactly what it is about this band that pulls me in, and last night, I figured out it's not any one thing; it's all of it, together. The composition, the meter, the lyrics, the heart. I just find it so inspiring. Yes, I am a total sap.

SPN fandom is being so good to me. I am SO lucky that there are so many good stories out there that even after the voracious amount of reading I've done, I still stumble across more excellent stories every day. I have recs, many of them, that I'll post separately in a bit. Meanwhile, my brain is being eaten alive by the characters and regurgitated as fic. I swear, it's like a sickness. Talk about obsession. It's been a while since I was this enthralled.

And this concludes our tour of random. Thank you for joining me, ladies and gentlemen, and have a great day! MWAH!

Oh, really? I may be wrong but I felt shippy vibes. The scene doesn't move the plot along and seem to exist only to demonstrate sexy and manly shirtless hero clueless about women's interest in him.

But, funnily, I don't mind. I can't take comics seriously. I read them, I like them, but they still are an alternate reality for me. This "alternate" Buffy may love Xander (or Andrew or ex-director Wood).

Squeee! Duncan and Methos! The first slash couple I shipped!

Huh. I did wonder for a moment at the shirtlessness, but then I figured it was for the added embarrassment factor when Buffy came in. I thought it moved the plot--the sub plots, anyway. Buffy comes in to talk about Xander's "date" with another Slayer (touching on the relationship they've been sort of background building for Xander with Renee), and then she tells him about her prophetic, recurring dream, which one assumes, is related to the main plot in a way we have yet to see, but will eventually be revealed. But, I mean, I could be totally wrong about the shippy thing, I just really didn't pick up on that.

OMG!!!! Methos is in it??? They got Methos back? I hadn't even really done much except looked at the picture on that site, so I had no clue! SQUEE, indeed! I LOVE Methos. Never got the chance to ship him and Duncan really, because by the time I discovered fandom online, I'd already moved long past that series. Sometimes I think about going back and re-watching the episodes again just so I can enjoy the fic I see being rec'd on crack-van.

I followed your link and found the promo. There is one close-up of Peter Wingfield in the promo, so I got excited, went to imdb - et voila! He's got fourth billing, but, I suppose, it's OK, since there is always a girl (second billing) and the villain (third billing).

I also "shipped" them only mentally - i.e. I loved imagining them together in different settings, but I never wrote down the snippets of the stories that occurred to me. I even didn't know the word "slash" back then! But I thought they had amazing screen chemistry and I desperately wanted to see Methos as a regular.

I read some BtVS\Highlander crossovers, but they never impressed me. Maybe I haven't found the right ones. :)

That made me laugh.

I'm glad to hear someone else say this. The Buffyverse was my first online fandom and goodness knows I was never short of anything good to read. I still have tons of things bookmarked I've never had time to get to.

When I started in with SPN earlier this year I was a bit boggled at how much was getting written to start with, especially considering the relative lack of characters compared to BtVS/AtS. So basically I just followed recs because I only had so much time. But as you said there is so much quality stuff out there that it's more likely I'll turn something down as "Not to my taste" than because it's not particularly good fic.

In fact just yesterday I read yet another story I thought was terrific and was thinking how lucky I am that such good writers are working in this fandom.

Hee! Glad to make you laugh!

I'm glad to hear someone else say this.

Do other people complain about a lack of quality fic? Cause DUDE. I've already found more excellent fic in a couple months than I found in BtVS the first couple months.

I know. I am so excited and loving this fandom so much. The talent is just incredible. I am sincerely humbled by it, honestly, and I think I write pretty well.

No, not that I've heard, it's just that I felt the same way just days after looking for fic and I thought maybe I was feeling that way because I was new. I hit a bunch of great stories right off the bat and was just "Whoa!"

Maybe it's because nearly everyone writes the two boys and that's generally what I want to read (though I've also read a couple of good fics with other characters) so I have so much to choose from it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

An area that doesn't seem to have a lot of good fic in is crossover BtVS/SPN stuff. I've found a few but a lot more that was just passable, which is too bad because I'd love to see more of that.

I am so looking forward to Saturday night!

As much as I love DB, and I really do, AP is my idea of the perfect male.

Your random makes me all sweaty outside and tingly inside.

Um, the comic. First: forget I said anything about the B/X crap. Dude, I don't know what these people are talking about! I read the scene like twelve times, and I'm all, "WTF are you nutbags whinging about? THERE'S NOTHING NEW THERE!" Stupid, bored fantwits. *nods*

On the other hand, WHO THE FUCK IS THIS CHICK THEY'RE CALLING FAITH? Seriously, some of the worst fucking characterization I have EVER seen. Did they even watch Season 4 of Angel? She wouldn't even kill a fellow prisoner who attacked her, but she's all, "Oh, goody! I'd love to kill another Slayer! Just point the way!" FUCK NO. I am UNHAPPY.

Plus, the art sucks. Ha! I feel confident enough to say that now!

I luffs you and miss you madly! *sobs*

*LMFAO at your icon* That is awesome! Can I gank it?

*L* See, that's what >I< thought, but hey. What do I know? I've been wrong before. Once or twice ;)

I do think Faith was set back a bit, but, that's kind of to be expected if they want her story to continue to have drama, right? I mean, a well0adjusted slayer does not an interesting story make. but I thought it was a little overdone. And yeah... the art started out okay, and got worse as it went on.

I miss you, too, babe! Always!!!! *slurps and cuddles*

Hee. I hope it's gankable, since I also ganked it. *G* I always figure that unless an icon says "Do not take" or some such, and I give credit to the appropriate creator, then it's fair game. I suppose I'm breaking a great many rules of Icon Ettiquette. *G*

See, I should have learned my lesson a long time ago -- no freaking out before you see/read/hear/watch for yourself. Because there's always something ELSE to get REALLY upset about. But of course, now that I know I'm missing like FOURTEEN pages of story, I can't judge the Faith thing appropriately either! Grrr. I don't expect her to be well-adjusted -- I mean, it's FAITH. But I also don't like 1.) Giles being willing to ask her to commit murder knowing what she's been through, and 2.) that Faith would go, "Oh, sure, okay!" when asked to.

Now, of course, I'll have to wait and try to get a hold of the issue at some point.
