Friday-itus Ramblings
Okay, wow. I have Friday-itus SOOOO bad today. I do NOT want to do any work. In fact, my brain's logic seems to go a little bit like this:

Brain: If you put on your headphones, then I won't have to do any work!
Me: How do you figure?
Brain: Because then they can't see me!

A little while later...

Boss: Have you finished that project yet?
Brain: *is secure in headphone-invisibility*
Boss: Um? Crystal?
Me: What?
Brain: How can they SEE me?

Now that I've calmed down a little bit... I want to discuss Supernatural S3 possibilities in a more rational manner. A little while back [info]yourlibrarian made a fascinating post about sacrifice in the SPN and Buffyverse's, and how the themes of the show differ. THIS is the season that can change all that. This is where they can pull in the rest of the Buffy audience they haven't snagged, yet. This season is gonna be rife with sacrifice and true heroism. Two reasons, and both make me squee.

One, War against Evil! Because NOW, they're IN IT. They've gone from being random wanderers doing good deeds while working more toward the larger, personal goal of revenge. Those deeds were done with good intentions, sure, but were sort of incidental on their way to killing the YED. They are becoming true Heroes now, with a capital "H", fighting for the side of good with no personal gain except the continued existence of the world and the triumph of good over evil.

And two, Apocalypse! I can't even begin to express my excitement over this. When the stakes get that high, you know the heroism and angst is going to explode right off the map. And I can't remember an Apocalypse that was ever averted by anything other than someone dying. Someone important and beloved, and usually by their own choice. I respect and adore the love the Winchesters share, and how they have (and likely will again) sacrifice themselves for each other over and over. But beautiful as that is, it is in the interest of self. "I'd rather die to save ____ than live without them" is a pretty selfishly motivated sentiment. There's just something more noble and epic and heroic about the character that's willing to put their life on the line for only the betterment of the WORLD. And I guarantee the Winchester boys are gonna do just that, all season long--especially considering that Dean is (for now) running on limited time. They've really got nothing to lose by going balls to the wall all the way to the end of the line, and it's gonna be one HELL of a ride, literally!

Even Buffy really had nothing to lose, because she was definitely going to die someday. But it was the not knowing WHEN she was going to die, the hope that she MIGHT live that made her cling to life so hard. Dean knows WHEN he's going to die, and so does Sam. They could try to have a nice quiet year, say goodbye, spend all their time trying to find a way out of Dean's contract, but I bet they don't. I bet they fucking embrace it and go all the way with it, down to the end, together.

So we have potential sacrifice galore, and good deeds done for their own sake. Two heroes who are not called, perhaps, as the Slayer is, but who have nonetheless just become the two most important players in the demonic war on this planet. AND they've got nothing to lose. I have a feeling this season's going to be one long, crazy season of kick ass-ness, and that we get a lot more continuity of the main plot over the episodes instead of so many self-contained ghost stories with the "main" plot mostly relegated to sub-plot. Which means a lot of excitement and cliffhangers. I hope so, anyway.

So, yeah, while everyone wasn't looking, I went from SPN fan to SPN fangirl.

In other news, I have completed my [info]fire_fic Faith/Dean story at about 4000 words and it's ready for posting whenever the requester gives me the go. I'm really excited about it. It's a little different flavor of story for me, mixing these three characters, and I think it came out really well. It's got a vibe. And the underlying SamDeaness makes me really happy and captures them well, I think. Plus, it's been too long since I wrote me some Faith, and I've MISSED her. And road fic, YAY!

Next up, finishing my B/A story for [info]fire_fic! And then, finishing my Sam/Dean story. Which I'm already 2500 words into on the second part.

After that, it's just me and my IWRY fic for the entire month October. That's gonna be sweet.

I've been doing a LOT of writing though, lately, between all the fic and my comic book project, and I'm starting to remember, yeah, you gotta exercise that muscle, because I get SO much better, the more I write.

And now, back to attempting to work.

*headphones on*

Yay for another SPN fangirl!

That's a good point, both really are committed now, they have no other choice. And I agree with you that moving Sam&Dean beyond their family concerns to larger issues is a good move for the show to make. Of course what comes after this (because I sure want it renewed) is going to be something to see.

Yeah, that is my only concern, too. I KNOW this season is gonna kick ass. It's where they go after this that i worry. Can they top it? I sure hope so!
