OMG. Remember what I said about the thought police coming?
Quoting violet_quill:
I sent in a support request with the exact wording from the open letter:
Is posting a link to prohibited content that is posted elsewhere going to receive the same punishment as it would if the prohibited content were posted on LiveJournal servers?
And this was the response:
In general, yes. In certain cases, for example if there is indication that the content present on the page being linked to was changed to include the prohibited content after the link to it was posted, the actions taken would likely change. In such a case, we would allow the person to remove the link rather than suspend their account, assuming suspension was the normal course of action. Other factors, such as whether or not the user is intentionally linking to content in an attempt to circumvent LiveJournal's Terms of Service, or if some part of a link just incidentally happened to contain a violation, may also effect a decision.
Dude. Just. Dude.
THEY'RE TELLING US WE CANNOT EVEN _LINK_ TO CONTENT THEY "MIGHT" FIND OFFENSIVE.
We're not talking about _embedding_ the possibly offensive content in your LJ. We're talking about POSTING A URL in your LJ that GOES TO ANOTHER SITE!!!!
So, let's assume that this site that I link to has no offensive content, but contains links to another site that DOES. Does THAT count? Because, dude, THAT IS WHAT THE INTERNET IS FOR!!!! It's covered under the "inter" and "net" parts! Everything links to everything else, eventually!
This is. I don't. There are NO. WORDS.
The stupidity at work here is fucking ASTOUNDING. I'm SOOOOO glad I'm getting out of there. At this point, the only thing I am posting in my livejournal is more information about what 6A is doing, and that's for the benefit of the people on my friends list. I can't wait to watch that place collapse under its own violations of its TOS and the weight of its own ignorance. |
